China reported today that its trade with Latin American and Caribbean countries has fully recovered and volumes are already at the level of before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

According to Shu Jueting, spokeswoman of the Ministry of Commerce, the behavior of these exchanges demonstrates resilience and constant development, constitutes a stabilizer in the nexus in a general way and left fruitful results in areas such as investments, execution of projects and mercantile operations.

He highlighted the insertion of 21 nations of that area in the Chinese initiative of the Belt and Silk Road, called to build an international mega-platform of cooperation and exchanges under the principle of shared profit.

Shu gave as an example the cooperation between China and Cuba. He revealed that in 2021 bilateral trade grew 7.2 percent, in the first three quarters of this year the expansion continued and in the case of imports from the island there was a rise of 18.1 points.

According to the official, the two countries have extensive cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, bio- pharmaceuticals, information and communications, tourism and infrastructure, among others.

Precisely, in a few hours the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, will arrive in China for a short but intense official visit.

China is the fourth and last stop of the current tour of the dignitary, who was previously here in 2013 and 2015 as vice president of Cuba, and then in November 2018 made his first trip as head of state.

The current tour seeks to consolidate relations and explore, at each stop, opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in different sectors for mutual benefit. (PL)
