El Salvador continues to strengthen its position as a leading tourist destination in Central America, standing out not only for rising visitor numbers but also for the length of time travelers choose to stay. According to estimates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country closed 2025 with more than 4.2 million international tourists, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism.
The preference for our nation was also reflected in visitors’ length of stay, with an average of 7.7 nights, one of the longest compared to other options in the region,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in an official release.
The government attributes this extended stay to the wide variety of tourism offerings across the country, ranging from coastal destinations to archaeological sites, as well as activities that promote multi-destination travel within a short distance. Authorities also highlighted El Salvador’s proximity and connectivity, allowing travelers to easily access diverse attractions.
During this period, tourism generated more than $3.6 billion in foreign currency inflows, with projections pointing to further growth in 2026. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that El Salvador improved its position in the Global Soft Power Index 2026 and emphasized that events such as Shakira’s regional residency in Central America are expected to attract additional visitors from neighboring countries.
