In a significant move to boost tourist arrivals and strengthen air connectivity, the Dominican Republic secured a series of major agreements at the ANATO 2025 tourism fair, held over three days in Bogotá, Colombia. The Dominican delegation, led by Tourism Minister David Collado, engaged in 25 high-level meetings with tour operators, airlines, travel agencies, marketing firms, and international media representatives.

The negotiations are part of a strategic effort to surpass 375,000 Colombian tourists by the end of this year—a goal buoyed by agreements with major carriers including Avianca, Copa, and Wingo. These cooperative deals are projected to secure more than 30% of the total passenger traffic entering the Dominican Republic, ensuring continued air connectivity between Colombia and the Caribbean destination.

ANATO 2025 also served as a pivotal platform to reinforce ties between the Dominican Republic and the Colombian market, now recognized as the third largest source of tourists for the island nation. Beyond boosting traveler numbers, the agreements aim to diversify tourism offerings and improve access to various attractions throughout the country.

The fair further highlighted emerging destinations such as Miches, which is set to operate over 3,000 hotel rooms by the end of 2025, and promoted Santo Domingo for its rich hotel, culinary, and cultural landscape. Notably, Latin America’s leading online travel agency, Despegar, acknowledged the Dominican Republic as the destination with the highest passenger growth in 2024, with Colombian flights totaling 3,633—32% on the El Dorado-Punta Cana route, 27% on the El Dorado-SDQ route, and 16% on the Medellín-Punta Cana route.

These developments reaffirm the Dominican Republic’s status as the premier Caribbean destination for Colombians and Latin American travelers, setting the stage for a new era of tourism-driven economic growth.
