After receiving the “World Golf Awards”, with Portugal being elected as the “Best Golf Destination in the World”, Funchal once again became the stage for the 31st edition of the “World Travel Awards”, from which Portugal emerged with 19 awards.
Portugal won 19 awards in this year’s edition of World Travel Worlds, seven more than in the last edition of 2023.
Braga received, for the second consecutive year, the emerging destination award, while the Algarve was elected, once again, the best beach destination in the world, an award it received in 2020 and 2021, Lisbon became the best destination for urban breaks and the best city of heritage, and, further up, Porto received the award for best metropolitan seaside destination, Madeira was declared for the 10th consecutive time the best island destination and the Azores the best destination for adventure tourism.
In addition to the awards given to the regions of Portugal, Passadiços do Paiva were distinguished as the best attraction for adventure tourism, Dark Sky Alqueva the best responsible tourism project and Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua the best company in the world in conservation.
TAP repeated its awards as the leading company in air connections to Africa and South America.
In the hotel sector, Amazing Evolution also won the award for leader in the management of boutique hotels, the Olissipo Lapa Palace was chosen as the best classic hotel, the Dunas Douradas Beach Club as the best golf resort and villas and the Bairro Alto Hotel as the best historical reference hotel.
Still in the hotel sector, the Savoy Palace, the venue that hosted the gala, was voted best luxury hotel, and The Reserve, from the same group, achieved the award for best luxury boutique hotel, while the Saccharum (also belonging to the Savoy, but in Calheta) became considered the best retreat.
