After highly acclaimed performances in Costa Rica, the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) is putting the finishing touches on the shows that the company will stage on Cayo Santamaria, one of the country’s most famous tourist destinations.

The Iberostar Selection Ensenachos Hotel will host performances by prima ballerinas Sadaise Arencibia, Grettel Morejon and Yankiel Vazquez on August 4, 5 and 6.

Main dancer Anyelo Montero and soloists Gabriela Druyet, Luis Fernandez, Jorge Guerra, Estefania Hernandez and Alianed Moreno will also make up the cast, the BNC informed in a press release.

Directed by Viengsay Valdes, the program will consist of scenes from the second act of Nutcracker and the Grand Adagio from the second act of Swan Lake, in versions by Alicia Alonso, based on the original choreography by Lev Ivanov, with music by Tchaikovsky.

The choreography Didenoi, by Maruxa Salas, with music by Leonardo Amuedo and Dulce Pontes, the solo Muto by Alberto Mendez, with music by Edvard Grieg, and Imago by Ely Regina Hernández will be also presented.

An emblematic work of the BNC’s repertoire, Dionaea, choreographed by Gustavo Herrera, with music by Heitor Villa-Lobos, has been chosen to close the show.

Founded in 1948 by the Fernando and Alberto Alonso brothers, along with Alicia, the BNC was declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation and is recognized as the highest expression of the Cuban school of ballet. (PL)
