Chile opens brand-new Pan American Sport Center. Chile took an important step in its preparation for the Pan American and Parapan American Games, with the opening of a new sport center that will house over 6,000 athletes from 41 countries in the capital’s Cerrillos district. Built in 21 months, the facility has 17 towers, 1,355 apartments, a gym, anti-doping clinic, pedestrian walkway, press center, green areas, sports equipment, children’s playgrounds and shops. “Currently, we are here giving a new starting point to the Pan American and Parapan American Games,” Chilean President Gabriel Boric said while noting the construction of this work in record time. Boric recalled that after the competitions, the apartments will be delivered as social housing benefitting thousands of families. The sport center covers 6.4 hectares and was built at a cost of USD$100 million of public-private investment.
