El Salvador´s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) will call elections on Wednesday, which will put the brakes on one of the most controversial political contests in recent years.
The event will mark the beginning of the contest for at least 13 political parties and seven presidential formulas that were elected in the internal elections to register before the governing body of the elections, starting on Thursday, September 7.
The polls will be broadcasted in a national chain by the authorities and must be attended by Luis Parada and Celia Medrano, candidates of Nuestro Tiempo; Humberto Sanchez and Hilcia Bonilla, for the Arena party; Manuel Flores and Werner Marroquin, of the FMLN and José Renderos and Rafael Montalvo, for the Fuerza Solidaria party.
Likewise, Jose Cardoza and Irma Sosa, for the Partido Independiente Salvadoreño (PAIS), and Marina Murillo together with Fausto Carranza, for Fraternidad Patriota Salvadoreña (FPS).
The TSE will start the countdown to the elections, from which the president and vice-president of the Republic, deputies of the Legislative Assembly and the Central American Parliament, as well as municipal councils will be elected. (PL)
