The vice president of the National People’s Power Assembly of Cuba (parliament), Ana Mari Machado, meet on Wednesday with the president of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), Amado Cerrud.
On its Twitter account, the National Assembly described the meeting, at which the vice president of the multilateral organization Daniel Ortega Reyes also participated, as fraternal.
Amado Cerrud is attending the 5th International Conference for the World’s Balance, at which he urged to promote equality, health opportunity, education, food security, peace with justice and social equity, as well as promote the integration of parliaments around the world.
Parlacen is the permanent regional body for political and democratic representation of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and was founded on October 28, 1991.
One of its functions is to promote initiatives such as the development of tourism and the inclusion of women in public office.
Amado Cerrud was elected to that post on October 28 in Guatemala City, where mentioned climate change and food insecurity among the current challenges for the world. (PL)
