Amid the social and political crisis suffered by the Haitian people, dozens of Haitian nationals are using the José Francisco Peña Gómez International Airport of the Americas as a bridge to travel to other countries.

Notorious affluence of passengers from that country lined up this Friday, in front of the new Arajet airline’s counters, on the terminal’s second level to board and travel to Mexico and other Central American nations.

Foreigners also use Copa Airlines, Aeroméxico, Avianca, and American Airlines flights to Miami, Florida, to leave the country.

According to data offered by authorities of the General Direction of Migration in this terminal, the flow of Haitian nationals in the last few weeks to countries such as Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia have increased considerably.

Haitians enter the country on regular flights arriving at the terminals of Las Americas and El Higüero, Dr. Joaquín Balaguer, in Santo Domingo from Port-au-Prince.

In the flights from Port-au-Prince regularly operated by the Air Century, Sky Cana, and Sunrise Airways airlines, in addition to Haitian passengers, there are also arriving travelers of other nationalities, such as Americans and French residents on the island.
