Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Public Health, Regla Angulo, and the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), Rodolfo Sabonge, talked today on the progress of anti-Covid-19 vaccination in the Caribbean island.
According to the Twitter social network account of the Cuban ministry, Sabonge learned about the strategy implemented to deal with the pandemic and the updating of health protocols regarding the Omicron variant of the virus.
The authorities also addressed the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for more than six decades by the United States government.
Currently, more than 21,000 collaborators provide health services to countries of the association and more than 2,000 Caribbean students study in Cuban universities, reported another message on the aforementioned digital platform.
Sabonge will also hold meetings today with directors of transport, trade, health, the environment and civil defense. In addition, he will hold official talks with the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez.
The Secretary General of the ACS began his work program on Wednesday at the University of Havana, where he gave a conference in which he assessed challenges and opportunities faced by countries of Latin America and the Caribbean after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ACS was founded in July 1994 with the purpose of promoting consultation, cooperation and concerted action among all Caribbean countries and is made up of 25 member states and seven associates.
