Today, Cubans are celebrating the 62nd anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, which is considered one of the most influential models of resistance and social struggle in Latin America and the world.
On the first day of January 1959, the Rebel Army led by Fidel Castro got the definite power and Fulgencio Batista’s flight, thus ending his tyranny.
Just after taking office, the new Government started the dismantling of the neocolonial political system, dissolved the repressive corps and cleaned public administration.
The Cuban process transformed the country’s dependence on the United States, established by the Monroe Doctrine, with a greater impact on the continent than any other Latin American insurrection in the 20th century.
Cuba achieved exemplary models of free education and health care, with valuable results for the world, in addition to international collaboration and the region’s integration with projects such as the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) or the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
Add to these the gains in culture, sport, science and technology, among other fields.
For more than 50 years, Cuba has maintained the capacity of resistance, in addition to the fairness of the struggle for its independence.
On Thursday, President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated the Cuban people for the New Year and the 62nd anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.
On his Twitter account, the president thanked Cubans, whom he called to celebrate the festive date with the family.
‘CubaViva. The grateful hug for our people. The gratitude and the heart-felt hug for the Cuban family, for being an inspiration, for its understanding, participation and contribution. With the family we will celebrate the new year and the 62nd anniversary of the Revolution,’ Diaz-Canel tweeted.
