The demonstration of false public documents signed by a former government official in Panama, as they were circulating on social networks, deconstructed attacks due to alleged corruption by the Executive.
On Wednesday, Carlos Garcia, who was appointed deputy minister of the Presidency to replace the resigning Juan Carlos Muñoz, showed several original letters local television that contained Muñoz’s commitment to pay suppliers and false copies that were doctored.
‘Falsifying public documents is a crime, so we invite the Attorney General of the Nation to open an investigation to determine the possible commission of a crime by publishing and falsifying public documents, for which the Minister of the Presidency has its doors open,’ Garcia noted.
According to the official, his office carried out an audit that detected the altered information in fraudulent documents about commitments to acquire medical inputs and equipment, which were used to confuse public opinion by altering the sums of money and the signature of his predecessor.
He noted that so far, that Ministry has not signed ‘any contract or paid or will pay a single balboa (dollar) to buy equipment that does not comply with the showed documents; so, today (yesterday), the total sum paid by the Ministry of the Presidency to buy equipment with emergency funds is zero balboas,’ he underlined.
