A Henry Reeve Cuban Medical Brigade left for Quiche department on Thursday to assist communities affected by the destructive Tropical Depressions Eta and Iota through Guatemala.
The group, will work in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance in this country, and it is made up of 20 health professionals specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine, epidemiologists and nurses, including seven Guatemalan health workers.
Many collaborators belonging to the Cuban Medical Brigade (BMC) in Guatemala were recently working in nine villages and communities of San Cristobal Verapaz, Alta Verapaz, which was hardly hit by Eta rains.
According to statistics from the Central Coordinating Committee, more than 1,000 victims were assisted not only in shelters but also in the villages that were isolated by the floods caused by Eta.
Next week, another medical brigade will leave for Izabal, another department hit by Eta and Iota, where some 15,000 families were affected and six people were killed. (PL)
