Five candidates to lead Morena, the ruling party in Mexico, were elected among 50 aspirants, but only three of them have possibilities to win, according to local analysts.
The three candidates, all of whom enjoy great national prestige, are Mario Delgado, leader of Morena’s bench; Porfirio Muñoz Ledo, an 87-year-old veteran with great political experience, and Yeidckol Polanvsky, the incumbent general secretary and former acting president since Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s presidential campaign.
Journalists from newspapers such as La Jornada, Excelsior, El Universal, Reforma, Milenio and others agree that the battle for the leadership of Mexico’s largest party focuses on those candidates.
The new leadership will be announced by the National Electoral Institute (INE) on October 10, after analyzing the results of the second survey that, according to the schedule, should start on Friday throughout the country.
