The trial of former PRI leader Cuauhtémoc Gutiérrez in Mexico City, accused of alleged people smuggling and aggravated sexual abuse, will begin on March 3rd.
The former PRI conservative leader is also accused for misleading publicity and criminal association, and will have his first hearing on that date, the attorney Héctor Pérez Rivera reported, who indicated that between the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Mexico City District Attorney’s Office and the prosecution there is a total of 36 pieces of evidence, including testimonies and expert opinions.
In the process, they will give guarantees to the victims so that they can testify with freedom and without fear of reprisals. According to the record admission of evidence, Gutiérrez de la Torre defense tried to present 103 witnesses, however they were dismissed by a criminal judge due to they were improperly offered by the defense.
Cuauhtémoc Gutiérrez remains in jail in the Federal Center for Social Readaptation Number 1, El Antipalno, in the Mexico state, after he was moved from the East Prison for security reasons. He was the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) head for a long time in the capital. (PL)
