DR opens the International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2025. The XXVII International Book Fair of Santo Domingo (FILSD 2025) begins today in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, with children’s and youth literature as a main subject and a tribute to the Dominican historian Frank Moya Pons. The event, which will last until October 5, will feature more than 600 activities, including 182 book presentations, 33 lectures, 125 talks, 65 workshops and 103 colloquia, as well as recitals and artistic proposals. The Vice-Minister of Cultural Identity and Citizenship, Pastor de Moya, and the Book Fairs’ director, Joan Ferrer, presented the details of the meeting, considered by the Ministry of Culture as the main literary event in the country and a space for international projection of Dominican culture. The Latin American Literary Fairs and Festivals Network will be the guest of honor, which anticipates an important cultural exchange between writers and publishers in the region. In 2024 the fair received more than 600 000 visitors, and brought together 19 countries, 377 publishing houses and 38 international authors. Among the novelties of this year are the program Multiplicando Letras, which will integrate 75 workshop members from different provinces; and the return of the Bonolibro, which in 2024 distributed 21 000 copies free of charge.
