Johnny Depp wins defamation trial against Amber Heard. Johnny Depp got a huge victory in court. The contentious, dramatic and often graphic defamation trial between Depp and Amber Heard reached its grand finale Wednesday when a jury sided with Depp. A jury found Heard libeled Depp in an op-ed in the Washington Post saying she was a survivor of abuse, even though she didn’t name Depp by name. The jury hit Depp with $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. In her countersuit against Depp, Heard was awarded $2 million in damages. The decision came down after 3 p.m. ET at the Fairfax County Circuit Courthouse in Virginia after the seven-person jury’s third day of deliberations. The verdict reading was delayed for nearly 20 minutes after the jurors initially failed to fill out the compensatory damages section of their special jury form. Heard was present for the verdict reading and Depp was not. Depp performed at multiple concerts in the United Kingdom this week with musician Jeff Beck.
