Thanks to the technical and financial support of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), more than 500 students in the municipality of La Lima now have access to a fully renovated school that provides an optimal learning environment. The rehabilitation of the Manuel de Jesús Valencia school is part of the Comprehensive Educational Infrastructure and Training Improvement Program (MIFE), an initiative led by the Government of Honduras and implemented by the Ministry of Education (SEDUC) and the Honduran Social Investment Fund (FHIS).

With an investment of over USD $780,000.00, the improvements to the school included the renovation of 17 classrooms, repairs to roofs, windows, and floors, the installation of new furniture, and upgrades to sanitary facilities—ensuring safe and adequate conditions for students.

The MIFE Program is supported by a total financing of USD $80 million and aims to rehabilitate 141 educational centers across several departments. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, renovations had been completed in 59 schools, with 23 currently under implementation and another 58 in the formulation phase pending tender.

The inauguration of this project was a moment of celebration for the school community, who shared their joy with the President of the Republic, Xiomara Castro, local authorities, and representatives from CABEI, FHIS, and SEDUC.

This effort aligns with President Castro’s Government Plan and CABEI’s 2025–2029 Institutional Strategy, which seeks to strengthen social inclusion and improve quality of life in Honduras. It also reinforces the Bank’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, ensuring inclusive and quality education for all.

CABEI reaffirms its role as a driver of development, creating opportunities for Honduran children and laying the foundation for a more prosperous and equitable future. (https://www.bcie.org/en/news-and-media/news/article/cabei-supports-honduras-in-improving-educational-infrastructure)
