Costa Rica will be welcoming visiting delegations today, ahead of the Central American Isthmus Port Meeting (Repica) on Monday, according to the newspaper La República.

The meeting will focus on maritime terminals in Panama, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and the Netherlands, according to spokesmen for the Board of Port Administration and Economic Development of the Atlantic Slope of Costa Rica (Japdeva), quoted by the newspaper.

The meeting will bring together the main companies in the area that seek to improve port facilities in terms of security, infrastructure, decarbonization, smart technology and innovation at a global level.

Other issues on the Repica agenda are the contribution of women working at port facilities, as well as innovation and artificial intelligence, Japdeva told La República.

Media reports have granted due importance to the event, as the government is going to great lengths to develop ports through projects for a specialized cruise terminal and plans related ton sea tourism.

Maritime transport hauls 80 percent of the world’s cargo and is one of the main doors to the economic development of nations, sources indicated.

According to La República, the event will touch on topics such as the relationship with the supply chain and logistics. (PL)
