The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participated this morning in the high-level event “The Role of Multilateral Banking in Regional Economic Growth” in Mexico City, which brought together important multilateral institutions for sustainable development and economic integration in the region.
In the framework of this meeting, the creation of a HUB for sustainable financing in southeastern Mexico was announced. The main objective of this HUB is to facilitate the attraction of investment in the Central American region and the development of new financial tools to leverage the resources of multilateral banks.
The event was chaired by the Undersecretary of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico, Gabriel Yorio; Undersecretary Alexia Latortue of the U.S. Treasury Department and Undersecretary Renata Vargas Amaral of the Ministry of Planning and Budget of Brazil. CABEI Directors, its Executive President, Gisela Sánchez, and high-level CABEI officials participated in the meeting, working closely with representatives of other multilateral organizations.
Among the distinguished personalities were Amanda Glassman, Executive Advisor to the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); María Fabiana Jorge, Executive Director for the United States at the IDB; Marcelino Madrigal, Head of the IDB’s Energy Division; Juliette Grundman, Director for Mexico, Cuba and Central America of the French Development Agency (AFD); Antonio Silveira, Vice President Private Sector and Infrastructure and Energy Manager of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF); and Emilio Uquillas, Corporate Country Manager of said organization.
The event also served as a platform to strengthen strategic alliances with other multilateral institutions. CABEI, together with the AFD, the IDB and CAF, presented their collaboration with the Government of Mexico to foster a just energy transition, promoting the use of environmentally friendly energies and considering the externalities that these will bring to the most vulnerable population.
Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit reaffirmed its commitment to work in coordination with its international counterparts to promote the well-being of the region’s population, highlighting CABEI’s fundamental role in these joint efforts.
With these projects and collaborations, CABEI continues to demonstrate its leadership and commitment to sustainable development and economic integration in Central America and beyond.
