UK Revealed List of Booker Prize Contenders. The Booker Prize ‘long list’ with the names of those shortlisted for the award is published today on the event’s website, and includes representatives from four continents. These are the authors competing this year for the award that honors the best long fiction published in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The 13 shortlisted books explore universal and topical themes, from deeply moving personal dramas to tragicomic family sagas, according to the event’s website. Topics range from the effects of climate change to the oppression of minorities, and from scientific advances to competitive sport. The works represent authors from seven countries on four continents, four Irish writers, four debut novelists and 10 authors being recognized by the Booker Prize for the first time. The nominees were chosen from 163 books submitted by publishers.
