Experts from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) are analyzing on Monday the documents they will submit to the regional bloc’s foreign ministers for approval at the presidential summit in Honduras on April 9.
Gathered in Tegucigalpa since Sunday, the national coordinators of the 33 CELAC member countries are arranging details of the texts that, with prior approval from the foreign ministers, will be ratified by the presidents.
Honduran deputy foreign minister and the Summit’s coordinator, Gerardo Torres, explained that the documents are initially discussed, then submitted to the foreign ministers and, subsequently, to the heads of State.
Torres stated that we are working on the Tegucigalpa Declaration, which will mark the lines of work and programmatic measures for the region in the coming years, in addition to the transfer of the pro tempore presidency to Colombia.
The deputy foreign minister described the presence of CELAC’s entire membership as a significant achievement for Honduras. This Monday, representatives from the three nations, who could not attend the first session on Sunday, will be present.
Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina stressed, “No president in the history of Honduras” had ever achieved such a presence of heads of State, foreign ministers, deputy foreign ministers, and heads of delegation at an international summit.
