Barbados took over on Wednesday the rotating presidency of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to give greater impetus to regional development and prosperity during its six-month term.
During her tenure, Prime Minister Mia Mottley will lead the regional integration bloc and preside over key meetings in Bridgetown, such as the 48th Regular Meeting of Heads of Government in mid-February, where participants will check what has been agreed, and accelerate the work of the region.
At that meeting, Caribbean leaders will review progress on agreements reached in Grenada last year and plan for others to further strengthen integration.
Mottley replaced his Grenadian counterpart, Dickon Mitchell, who has led the bloc since July 1.(PL)
