The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will hold the 48th ordinary meeting of heads of Government in Barbados next year to review the agreements to speed up the work of bloc, according to an official press release.

According to the communiqué from the 47th summit held in Grenada, the members States will meet in Bridgetown in mid-February 2025, and Barbados will be the host because it will assume the rotating presidency of the bloc on January 1.

In Barbados, they will review the progress of the agreements reached here this week and will plan others with a view to further strengthening integration.

The text from the Grenadian meeting mentioned the agreements to promote the development of digitalization, artificial intelligence and other technologies for the welfare of the region.

The Caribbean countries agreed on positions to strengthen the fight against climate change and to take advantage of every forum in the international arena to denounce the environmental problems they face as small island states.

They decided to monitor the border disputes between Belize and Guatemala, and Guyana and Venezuela, defending the territorial integrity of its members.

Among other issues, CARICOM issued a special statement against crime and another one in rejection of US hostility against Cuba.

The 47th summit of the bloc was held from July 28 to 30, after being postponed due to the devastating Hurricane Beryl through the Caribbean, especially Grenada. (https://www.plenglish.com/news/2024/08/03/caricom-to-hold-48th-summit-in-barbados/)
