The popular consultation of the Family Code project in its version 24 has already begun throughout the country and will run until April 30 in more than 78,000 meeting points.
Previously, on January 27 and 28, the details for this process were prepared through a dynamic test, in which the 12,513 constituency electoral commissions participated.
Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez, president of the National Electoral Commission, highlighted in recent statements the importance of consulting the legal document, which is broad and complex, but of great importance for the Cuban family.
She pointed out that the constituency electoral commissions, with the support of the mass organizations, will guarantee that each voter receives the invitation to participate in the corresponding meeting place, and alternatives will be implemented for those who cannot travel to the sites designated.
The population will also be able to send their assessments to the email provided by the National Assembly of People’s Power and those who are abroad will have the opportunity to do so through the one established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Balseiro Gutiérrez insisted that the meetings are not to disagree or discuss any issue, but to collect information and process it.
In the information to collect in these meetings, the categories of: Modification, Addition, Elimination and Doubts are maintained, and those of Favorable and Others were included.
PhD Yamila González Ferrer, vice president of the National Union of Jurists of Cuba, noted that there will be a variety of criteria in the consultation: positive and negative, and other people will have doubts and want to go deeper, but that multiplicity of perspectives should not be assumed as something harmful or as an expression of disunity among the people, but as an opportunity for learning and growth.
We are facing such a broad and comprehensive project that all people, all families need to participate in the debate, know its contents, the benefits it brings, the protection it provides, she stressed in an interview.
It is expected that the culmination of the process of submitting the proposals to the National Assembly for their processing and consolidation will be in May.
The Parliament of Cuba will work with the information collected and in the month of July it is estimated that the Family Code Project will be published, which will be taken to a popular referendum.
The Project of the Code in its version 24 was published on January 12 in the Official Gazette of the Republic and is available on the website of the Ministry of Justice (www.minjus.gob.cu), in a version that contains the numbering of the Titles, Chapters, Sections, Articles, paragraphs and the terms of the glossary.
