Cuba. On November 3rd, the International Community rejected for the thirtieth time the economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States has maintained against Cuba for more than 60 years.
The draft resolution entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” was adopted by 185 votes in favour, with two abstentions (Brazil and Ukraine) and the usual two votes against, the United States and Israel.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said of the results: “The international community confirms, once again and eloquently, the almost unanimous demand for an end to the blockade and isolation suffered by the United States for a cruel policy that violates International Law,” he said.
Prior to the vote, the Cuban Foreign Minister affirmed that the blockade reaches all spheres of Cuban society, constituting the main obstacle to the development of the country, in addition to being something that violates international laws and the charter of the United Nations.
He said that more than 80 percent of the Cuban population was born under the effects of the blockade, asking that Cuba deserves to live in peace and without a blockade.
He counted the damages caused in the first 14 months of the Biden administration, which amounted to six thousand 364 million dollars, which is equivalent to an affectation of more than 15 million dollars a day.
He explained its extraterritorial scope, with concrete examples, “harms the sovereignty of the United Nations countries, sanctions their businessmen and prevents access to their ports of third-party ships that docked in Cuba,” he said.
He recalled that, in the midst of the pandemic, the United States intensified this economic siege and generated delays in the arrival of medical supplies and equipment necessary to combat the pandemic, as was the case of the raw material for Cuban vaccines, while excluding the Cuban people from the temporary relief it applied to other nations to mitigate this deadly disease.
In Cuba, as every year, the people celebrated this new victory, which highlights the hostile and inhumane policy that the most powerful country in the world has been applying against Cuba for 11 administrations.
