Cuba will be presenting a dossier of vaccines against Covid-19 to the World Health Organization (WHO) in March, as announced this Tuesday by the director of Biocubafarma, Eduardo Martínez Díaz.
Martínez Díaz detailed that the institution is working on presenting the document that will contain the results on clinical and preclinical research, pharmaceutical development, and everything related to production facilities.
Given the Cuban disposition and its effort so that the vaccines begin to be accepted and recommended by the WHO, the official explained that this international entity responded that they present the dossier, to later visit the manufacturing plant and carry out the pertinent inspection to grant prequalification.
In this sense, the director of Biocubafarma explained that the place of production of the drugs will be transferred to the special development zone located in Mariel, province of Artemisa, located about 50 kilometers from the Cuban capital, Havana.
The announcement was made by the official at a press conference at the same time that he convened the Bio Habana 2022 International Congress, which will take place between April 25 and 29, an event for which the presence of more than 100 scientists and businessmen is expected. foreign.
It is worth mentioning that the Caribbean nation is the manufacturer of five vaccines and vaccine candidates against Covid-19, among which Abdala and Soberana stand out, which are the ones that have had the greatest national and international use, being applied in nations such as Venezuela, Vietnam, Nicaragua, among others.
Close to 90 percent of the Cuban population has completed its vaccination schedule against Covid-19, 93.5 percent have at least one dose applied; and more than 50 percent have been inoculated with the booster.
