The foreign ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) demanded that the United States (US) exclude Cuba from the unilateral list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said Wednesday.
The head of diplomacy of the Caribbean island indicated in his Twitter social network account that the support for the Government of Havana occurred within the framework of the XXIII Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of CELAC, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“They demanded (the) exclusion of Cuba from the unilateral list (that) the United States prepares of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism,” Rodriguez said.
He stressed that the foreign ministers of the countries that make up CELAC “called for an end to the economic blockade against the island, highlighting serious damage caused to the well-being of our people.”
On Wednesday, the officials of the regional organization participated in the plenary session of its XXIII meeting, in which they ratified their commitment to develop joint policies to face the common challenges of the region.
This Thursday, CELAC’s foreign ministers will hold the III Summit with their counterparts from the European Union (EU), also in the Argentine capital.
In the joint declaration after their XXIII, the foreign ministers of CELAC pointed out the importance of expanding ties with extra-regional partners, based on equity, inclusion, sovereign equality of States and non-intervention in internal affairs, among other points.
