The 20th ALBA-TCP Summit concluded with the adoption of political consensus agreements and an action plan that endorses its independent course for integration and against U.S. interference.

This was the consensus reached in Havana by the heads of state and representatives of the ten nations that make up the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America-Trade Treaty of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP).

ALBA-TCP is the alternative against the new economic colonialism, states the final declaration summarized by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The president stressed that the declaration rejected what it described as “attempts by imperialism to confuse our peoples” and condemned them with unilateral coercive measures.

The Havana Declaration thanked Cuba for its contribution to other peoples and rejected Washington’s blockade against the largest Caribbean island and its inclusion in a unilateral U.S. list on charges of terrorism.

We denounce the lies of imperialism that preaches peace and practices war, emphasizes the text. It also expresses solidarity with Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Bolivia.

Climate change, migration, post-Covid-19 strategy, selective protectionism is among the issues the mechanism intends to advance.

It also expresses Cuba’s reiterated commitment to collaborate with the bloc member countries, particularly in the vaccination against the coronavirus.

The presidents of Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Bolivia, Nicolás Maduro, Daniel Ortega, and Luis Arce, respectively, participated in the conclave. Also, the Prime Ministers of Grenada, Keith Mitchell and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves.

U.S. with no morals to judge on democracy, says Díaz-Canel

In his closing speech at the 20th ALBA-TCP Summit, the Cuban president lashed out at the so-called Democracy Summit, called virtually and unilaterally by the US government.

Díaz-Canel said that participants at the Democracy Summit turned a blind eye to massacres and repression of social protests in Latin America, resulting in deaths and injuries.

Neither, he remarked, was it possible to explain the 2019 coup in Bolivia, promoted by the former President Donald Trump administration and which was supported by the US Secretary of State back then.

The Cuban leader condemned the growing number of social leaders and journalists assassinated across the continent, without Washington flinching about it.

He also wondered why at the summit called by President Joe Biden there was no talk about probing right-wing politicians from various countries who deposit their wealth in tax havens.

He assured that sanctions and other punitive measures will not be able to subdue the Cuban, Venezuelan and Nicaraguan peoples, while stressing that the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) will work for the dignity and possible happiness of its peoples.

In this regard, he reiterated Cuba’s solidarity commitment which puts its own vaccines and other vaccine candidates at the service of humanity, particularly of Latin American and Caribbean nations.

ALBA-TCP secretary condemns hoarding of Covid-19 vaccines

ALBA-TCP Executive Secretary Sacha Llorenti on Friday condemned the hoarding of Covid-19 vaccines by developed nations, which harms the control of the pandemic globally.

On his Twitter account, the secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty, considered that the outbreak of the Omicron variant is the result of unequal access in the world to vaccines against the disease.

“Not vaccinating all vulnerable people in the world causes death and the extension of the pandemic. It is capitalism,” Llorenti tweeted.

During the 19th Summit of ALBA-TCP Heads of State and Government, held in June, the member countries of the bloc reaffirmed the need for urgent universal immunization against Covid-19 to ensure the equitable and humanitarian distribution of vaccines, supplies and equipment.

This week, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Omicron variant an issue of concern, since it has a number of mutations that could increase the risk of infection and trigger new Covid-19 outbreaks. (Periódico Digital Centroamericano y del Caribe)
