The Colombian company Avianca resumed its daily flights to Cuba on Monday, with a plane from Bogotá that arrived at the José Martí international airport in this capital.

We hope that it will be a fruitful restart of operations to have a better coverage of connections between us and Colombia, Comercial Take Off General Director Agustín Gutiérrez, representative of Avianca here, told reporters.

On Monday, 89 passengers arrived in Cuba on an Airbus A320, which Gutiérrez described as an opportunity to increase air links with different parts of the world, from Bogotá and from the Cuban capital.

A previous press release from Avianca, published on its website, indicated that the direct route between both Latin American capitals would be operated by A320 family aircraft, with capacity for 180 passengers, which will allow a weekly offer of more than 2,500 seats on the route.

“Landing in Havana for the end of this year with a new direct route will allow millions of passengers to connect from different parts of the world with the culture of Havana through Bogotá,” said Avianca’s director of sales for Colombia and South America, David Alemán, who was quoted in the company’s press release.

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism wrote on its Facebook profile on Monday that “this restart marks a new stage of connectivity and opportunities between the two countries, facilitating cultural, tourist and commercial exchange.” (https://www.plenglish.com/news/2024/12/17/colombian-airline-avianca-resumes-flights-to-cuba/)
