Dominican carrier Arajet will begin Newark-Santo Domingo service on June 16, flying the route four times per week.
It will be one of five U.S. routes that Arajet launches this spring. The discount airline will also fly from Miami to Santo Domingo (April 11) and Punta Cana (June 2) and from San Juan to Santo Domingo (June 4) and Punta Cana (June 6).
The airline will compete against United and JetBlue on the Newark-Santo Domingo route. JetBlue and Delta also fly to Santo Domingo from New York JFK.
Arajet flies all of its routes with Boeing 737 Max aircraft. It aspires to offer connecting service to South American destinations, including Brazil, Peru, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador.
