MIAMI –  July 10, 2024 Avianca announced the launch of direct sales for the new route connecting Bogotá with Chicago, starting on October 27.

The airline flew between El Dorado International Airport and O’Hare International Airport from 2018 to 2019, and after a five-year hiatus, it resumes this route with seven weekly flights. The route will be flown using A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers, offering more than 2,500 seats per week.

The return of this route will strengthen connectivity across the Americas, allowing millions of travelers in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean, to connect to the Windy City through Bogotá.

“At Avianca, we continue to focus on providing more connectivity and access to new destinations around the world. Following our successful launches in Montreal and Paris earlier this year, we are thrilled to introduce the new Bogotá-Chicago route. This addition strengthens our network to include over 10 destinations across North America,” said Rolando Damas, Avianca Airlines Sales Director for North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. “This new route will allow more travelers to connect to the United States through our network and facilitate the arrival of new visitors to Colombia and the rest of our region. We are committed to delivering a refreshed travel experience that prioritizes safety, punctuality and reliable luggage handling.”

“On behalf of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, I am thrilled to welcome Avianca’s new service between O’Hare International Airport and El Dorado International Airport in Chicago’s sister city of Bogotá, Colombia,” said Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee of the Chicago Department of Aviation. “This new route not only strengthens our connectivity with Latin America but also opens up exciting opportunities for business and tourism. Avianca’s commitment to providing exceptional service aligns perfectly with our goal to offer diverse and convenient travel options for our passengers, and we look forward to a successful partnership on this route for years to come.”

“We celebrate this new route with Avianca between Chicago and Bogotá, which boosts Colombian tourism and strengthens our air connectivity with the US, our top source of travelers. As the leading South American destination for US visitors, Colombia continues to offer meaningful experiences and stunning beauty. This route solidifies our position as a key player in the hemisphere’s travel network”, said Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia, the country’s promotion agency.
