The Spanish airline Iberojet has cancelled flights between Madrid and Santiago de Cuba, a route inaugurated less than a year ago, “for operational reasons”. The last flight will take place on September 29, confirmed Yosvany Guerra Pérez, of the Spanish agency Cuba Tu Like.
“We were told that the decision was for operational reasons. We have relocated our passengers on flights to Havana. Some have asked for reimbursement, generally to travel with Cubana de Aviación to Santiago, where they also have options to carry up to three suitcases,” Guerra said.
Likewise, a passenger who had a reservation with Iberojet on this route for the month of January 2024, received an email from the airline informing him about the cancellation of the flights, according to the aforementioned media.
Other sources said that the cancellation is due to the low occupancy of flights to Santiago de Cuba, a destination with a deficiency in hotel infrastructures and an absence of activities for visitors.
In August, Iberojet canceled two flights between Madrid and Cuba due to weather reasons, affecting around 300 passengers who demanded to be relocated to other services while they remained stranded in hotels in the Spanish capital, as reported by REPORTUR.mx.
