The government projects that cruise tourism will grow between 7% and 9% this year, 2025, driven by the operation of various tourist ports and the arrival of hundreds of thousands of cruise passengers visiting the Dominican Republic.

This was stated by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, during the signing of a new strategic agreement between the Dominican Government and the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), headed by President Luis Abinader.

“Cruise tourism is at its peak and will be even better in the years to come,” Abinader said.

The President announced the construction and development of new ports across the country, highlighting that cruise passenger arrivals have doubled and that this type of tourism has become an essential pillar of the national economy.

He stressed that the Government has strengthened the Taino Bay port in Puerto Plata, as well as the Cabo Rojo port in Pedernales, according to Listín Diario.

He also mentioned that the ports of Samaná, Arroyo Barril, and Barahona are currently under construction, being carried out directly by the Government.

He also announced that two new ports are already planned, including one in Manzanillo, which will complement the industrial and logistics development underway there, and another that will be announced soon.

So far this year, nearly two million cruise passengers have visited the Dominican Republic, representing a 7% increase, according to Minister Collado.

A total of 738,136 visitors arrived through Amber Cove in Puerto Plata; 719,701 through Taíno Bay; 206,150 through La Romana; 60,957 through Cabo Rojo; 44,242 through Samaná; 30,570 through Santo Domingo; and 20,204 through Catalina Island.
