February has solidified its role as a key month for tourism in the Dominican Republic, with hotel occupancy reaching an average of 86.8%, a 5.9% increase from last year. The rise is attributed to Valentine’s Day, favorable weather, and a variety of festive events. Around 700,000 tourists visited the country, primarily from the United States (40%), Canada (15%), and Germany (10%), reinforcing the nation’s appeal as a top destination for cultural and leisure experiences.
Bávaro-Punta Cana led with 90.7% occupancy, while La Romana-Bayahibe saw a 10% rise, reaching 88%. Other regions, including Puerto Plata, Sosúa-Cabarete, and Santo Domingo, also experienced significant growth. Luxury all-inclusive resorts, particularly those in the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, played a key role in attracting high-end travelers seeking personalized experiences. The increase in tourism also boosted the local economy, generating thousands of jobs in hospitality, transportation, dining, and entertainment.
Financially, the sector saw notable gains, with the average nightly rate rising by 6% and revenue per available room (RevPAR) growing by 23%. Industry experts highlight that the focus on enhancing guest experiences and maximizing profitability has strengthened the Dominican Republic’s position as a premier Caribbean destination, according to El Dinero.
