Mexico’s most popular airline, Volaris, has just launched a flight sale to 6 exciting destinations in Central and South America! Jet setters will be able to fly out of the U.S. with their passport in hand for as low as $72!

This crazy deal expires this February 6th. So those interested should book as soon as possible. The best way to browse the flight options is to go to the official website of Volaris, where details of the sale are clearly listed on the home page. Simply search any of the listed destinations from the drop-down menu and find the best deal on their calendar feature.

Where to Go

This amazingly affordable sale has flights from America to 6 different countries in Central and South America:

    Peru

    Guatemala

    Colombia

    El Salvador

    Honduras

    Costa Rica

Some of the best one-way deals found are as follows:

From Miami to San Pedro Sula, Honduras for $72

From San Diego (Tijuana) to Guatemala City, Guatemala for $79

From New York to San Jose, Costa Rica for $100

From Houston to San Jose, Costa Rica for $105

From Miami to San Jose, Costa Rica for $115

From Oakland to San Salvador, El Salvador for $115

From Los Angeles to Guatemala City, Guatemala for $135

From New York City to San Salvador, El Salvador for $155

The range of these outrageous prices are from July 2023 through March 2024, so travelers have many great options at hands.

There is limited time left to choose! At midnight February 7th, these fares will cease to exist.

Not So Fast…

Of course, it’s only natural to wonder, “What’s the catch?”. There really is no catch, just acute awareness.

Something travelers should be wary of before jumping for joy at these insane prices is that Mexico does things a little differently with airfare. Yes, the base fare will truly be as low as $72. But shoppers should keep an eye out for an extra fee known as “TUA”.

This is basically a cover charge on ALL flights to be able to use the airport in whichever city you travel to/from. Some Mexican airlines let you pay the TUA at a later date. Volaris is not one of those airlines, so purchasers will need to pay these fees upon checkout online. While it may seem like a nuisance at first glance, there will still be many flights that are a steal of a deal, even with the annoying fee.

Fares are going to be different based on a variety of factors. It’s important to double-check the terms and conditions for any blackout dates or other useful information before going down the rabbit hole of Cheap Flight Land.

One such condition is that all flights at the $72 price point will only be categorized as Basic. This means passengers will not be allowed to bring a carry-on without whipping out their credit card again.

Unless you are a frequent budget airline travel hacker used to the challenges of Allegiant and Spirit, then paying a little extra might be best.

More About Volaris

For those who may not have heard of this airline, the first question might be, “Is it safe?” The answer is an astounding “Yes!”.

Volaris is certified as a 3-star low-cost airline, according to Skytrax. They offer a modern fleet of Airbus A319/320/321 models, so travelers should feel safe aboard their planes no matter the destination.

They have been in business since 2006 and have sustained continued growth over the years. They became Mexico’s most popular airline in 2022, with over 25.5 million passengers. This achievement was in part to a competitor, Interjet, going out of business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Passengers should take note this is a budget, no-frills airline and should not expect any complimentary snacks or refreshments. Menus are provided onboard, and U.S. dollars are not accepted as cash payments. Only Mexican pesos and major credit cards are accepted onboard for food and beverages.
