Cuba will host the 69th edition of the Regional Commission of the Americas of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) that will take place next year.
During a meeting of this international organization held in Ecuador, representatives of different nations approved by consensus that the Caribbean nation will host the forum in 2024. In an interview with Prensa Latina, the First Deputy Minister of Tourism of Cuba, María del Carmen Orellana, stressed that her country will be able to show leaders of the sector how this activity has been developed in numerous destinations; and significant issues for the entire region will be addressed.
“We also want to promote local development, which really contributes to the communities, and for this we plan to bring experts in these issues who can help us with initiatives and projects to further develop tourism,” said the official. He also pointed out that Cuba is working to diversify the offer, with the development of new products and experiences that respond to new global trends and encourage the interaction of travelers with communities.
“The purpose is to ensure that the benefits of tourism are translated into profits for the population, both in the large poles and in small towns,” he added.
