Las Terrazas Cultural Landscape, in western Mayabeque province, was declared a National Monument in Cuba, as an example of the synthesis of traditional architecture, local media reported.
The declaration was read on Friday before local residents and guests by architect Nilson Acosta, vice president of the National Cultural Heritage Council, who highlighted the town’s historic, natural and architectural values, Cubadebate reported.
Local residents also enjoyed the 109th concert of the Tour of Neighborhoods by Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez to commemorate the musician’s first performance for the workers of the Sierra del Rosario Plan in 1968. Rodriguez was accompanied by musicians Niurka Gonzalez, Jorge Reyes, Emilio Vega, Jorge Aragon, Oliver Valdes and Trovarroco (Rachid Lopez and Maykel Elizarde).
Las Terrazas is made up of several places of historic, recreational and cultural interest, like a sustainable development rural community, the buildings of old coffee farms from the 19th century, lakes and tropical forests, among other attractions.
