Jamaica on Monday opened its borders to its nationals stranded abroad due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and will allow international travelers to arrive in the country as of June 15.
The information was published by local media, which quoted a letter sent by Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett to unidentified addressees link to the sector.
Jamaica closed its borders on March 24, as part of the fight against the new coronavirus.
Reports show that the opening to foreigners coincides with the resumption of work in several State agencies on Monday.
Jamaica employs 160,000 workers directly in the tourism sector and some 120,000 employees were laid off after the closure of the country’s hotels.
