Usain Bolt was victim of severe economic losses due to fraud. Former Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt acknowledged today having suffered severe economic losses due to a massive fraud associated to the investment firm Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL). ’m not broke, but losses have definitely hit me, the eight-time Olympic champion told the Jamaica Observer newspaper. According to the publication, Bolt’s account at SSL dropped from $12.7 million to $12,000 earlier this year, for which he fired his financial manager. The current world record holder of 100 and 200 flat meters explained these funds were for his future and that of his family. Regarding the trial, the former Caribbean athlete pointed out that he leaves the matter “in the hands” of his lawyers because this situation is “difficult” for him. I’m just trying to focus on my family and try not to think about it too much because it’s a stressful situation, he added. According to the Jamaica Financial Services Commission, to date fraud has reached three billion dollars, which led the national government to request international assistance to recover any assets or products.
