Cuba and US announce wrestlers for Grand Prix in Nice. Cuban and US Olympic and world champions are attending the Henri Deglane Wrestling Grand Prix in Nice, France, in the opening of the season of the 2021 United World Wrestling. With 15 wrestlers, the Cuban delegation will be headed by Olympic champions Mijain Lopez (130 kg) and Ismael Borrero (67 kg); whereas, Olympic champions Helen Maroulis (57 kg) and Kyle Snyder (97 kg) stand out among the 33 wrestlers from the United States. According to Cuba’s JIT daily, Lopez, three times olympic champion in the classic style, will not compete in Nice because his objective is to seize the occasion to train and watch potential rivals prior to the Tokyo Olympic Games. In this regard, Cuba will participate with a complete team in the Greco-Roman wrestling event, and with four athletes in the men’s and women’s contest in freestyle wrestling; including Reineris Andreu (57 kg) and Milaymis Marin (76 kg), who will seek to be in optimal shape for the world pre-olympic event in May in Sophia, Bulgaria. Besides Maroulis and Snyder, the United States will show off at the French Grand Prix a quartet of world champions such as Jacarra Winchester (53 kg), Tamyra Mensah-Stock (68 kg), Kyle Dake (74 kg) and David Taylor (86 kg), as well as five other medalists at the highest level.
