New York Mets: Legendary Pitcher Tom Seaver Passes Away. Legendary New York Mets pitcher Tom Seaver, passed away at the age of 75 on Wednesday, following complications with Lewy body dementia and COVID-19. Tom Seaver was one of the best pitchers, not only in the history of the New York Mets but in the history of Major League Baseball as a whole. When Seaver was elected into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992, he received the highest percentage of votes in the history of the Hall of Fame. Obviously, that has been surpassed since, with Mariano Rivera being elected unanimously, and Derek Jeter receiving all but one vote, but that just speaks to how good Seaver was. Seaver won the National League Cy Young Award three times, won the National League Rookie of the Year in 1967, and helped the Mets win one of their two World Series in franchise history, as part of the ‘Miracle Mets of ’69’.
