Growing rejection of Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan. More than 75% of Japanese people reject the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. Only 23.9% of Japanese citizens polled by Kyodo news agency were in favor of holding the Olympic and Paralympic Games at that time, mainly due to fear of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The Tokyo Olympics had to be postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused so far more than 14 million cases and nearly 606,000 deaths globally. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee recently confirmed that the Games would take place in 2021, although they are weighing to reduce the calendar. The IOC made it clear that a further postponement would be impossible, so if the Games could not be held in 2021, then they would be officially canceled. The next Olympic Games are scheduled for Paris, France, in 2024.
