Spain has seized 530 kilos of cocaine coming from the Dominican Republic in a joint operation by agents of the Civil Guard and Customs Surveillance officials of the Tax Agency. According to reports, the authorities intercepted the drug that was being carried hidden in a shipment of avocados.
The action took place on Saturday, within the framework of the inspections of merchandise that arrives in Spain through the Adolfo Suarez Barajas International Airport.
The suspicion of manipulating a fresh fruit led the agents to check three pallets with 38 boxes of avocados, all of them with different amounts of cocaine hidden. The total net weight of the confiscated drugs amounted to 2,268 kilograms.
According to the source, this method, known as “rip off” or “lost hook,” is used by traffickers to try to introduce drugs through import and export companies.
The companies in charge of the merchandise are unaware of the traffickers’ actions as they act bribing officials until the last moment. (https://www.plenglish.com/news/2023/12/05/spain-seizes-530-kilos-of-cocaine-seized-from-dom-rep/)
