Honduras closed July with 1,337 deaths from COVID-19, while those infected have totaled 42,014, since March, when the first cases of patients and deaths from this disease were confirmed, the System reported. National Risk Management (Sinager).
The peak of the pandemic in the Central American country continues to grow, according to Sinager records, which today indicated that, of 1,324 new tests carried out, on different dates, 588 were positive, with which the cases of contagion exceeded 42,000.
Regarding the cases of deaths and contagions registered between March and June, the figures have shot up in July by more than 100 percent, according to official records.
On June 30, the Sinager reported that 497 people had died since COVID-19 since March and that the number of infections had risen to 19,558.
In its report today, the Sinager recorded 25 new deaths, for a total of 1,337 in almost five months of pandemic.
With regard to hospitalized patients, they amount to 1,419, of which 1,042 remain in stable condition, 331 are serious and 46 in intensive care units.
There are 111 people who have overcome the deadly disease, with whom the number of recovered rose to 5,554.
FIRST CONTAINERS ARRIVE WITH MOBILE HOSPITAL FOR TEGUCIGALPA
After a three-week wait, this Friday the first 16 containers, of 39, of a mobile hospital, of seven purchased in Turkey in April, arrived in Tegucigalpa in an operation in which, according to complaints from civil society organizations, there were corruption. The case is being investigated by the Public Ministry.
Two of the seven hospitals arrived last day at Puerto Cortés, in the Honduran Caribbean, and after a cumbersome administrative procedure, due to irregularities in the purchase documents, the hospitals have been gradually leaving.
The first to comply with the customs process was San Pedro Sula, in the north of the country and the second most important city, as well as being the one that registers the most COVID-19 infections.
Rubén Reyes, executive of Honduras’ Strategic Investment (Invest-H), the entity in charge of purchasing mobile hospitals, indicated that the one in Tegucigalpa would be operating in mid-August.
The other five purchased hospitals would be arriving in the country at the end of August, according to official sources.
USA MAKES SECOND DELIVERY OF FANS
To help in the health emergency in Honduras due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of the United States today delivered 160 fans, of 210 donated so far, reported the Embassy of that country in Tegucigalpa.
The delivery was made through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
« These ventilators, made in the United States, are highly specialized medical equipment and an essential part of managing intensive care patients to help them breathe while fighting the virus, » added official information.
Usaid is also financing the construction of virology laboratories in Cortés, La Ceiba and Copán, in the north and west of Honduras, to expand the ability to test for COVID-19 and isolate infected people in time.
In addition, the Usaid works with the Ministry of Education to benefit around 1.6 million students nationwide, with resources for their distance education.
