The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) today implements regional programs in the education sector in favor of the development of teachers and school leaders to improve student learning outcomes.
With the support of the World Association for Education (GPE), the nations of Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines follow a partnership approach that shows achievements in universal primary education.
The island countries of the Eastern Caribbean recognize the importance of quality education for the social and economic benefit of its inhabitants and, in that sense, provide for a strategy in the sector until 2021 in which ‘every student is successful’.
The education system in OECS members prioritizes the professional development of teachers, strengthening leadership and management and improving the curriculum and evaluation strategies.
The objectives of the GPE-funded program focused on the quality of teaching practices at the primary level, the use of learning standards to support leadership, responsibility in the school and strengthen the monitoring and evaluation capacity.
According to GPE figures, a total of two thousand 900 teachers and school leaders participated in professional development activities and more than 43 thousand children attending primary schools in the four countries benefited from it.
