The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE, Spanish acronyms) announced on Thursday in Havana that it will provide technical assistance to the Cuban Central Bank (BBC) to strengthen the fight on crimes against humanity.

Speaking at the Conference on Financing for Development underway in this city capital, BCIE deputy executive president Jaime Diaz explained that the move is commonplace practice with all member nations, including Cuba.

The technical assistance includes a non-reimbursable fund of 52 thousand 500 Euros to strengthen the Cuban prevention system against money laundering, terrorism, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and to contribute to the update of the risk assessment system.

The BCIE official recalled that his entity granted a first credit to Cuba in 2022 to back different biotech production lines and to increase the response capacity against future sanitary emergencies, an action also implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in coordination with BioCubaFarma conglomerate.

The event, sponsored by the Cuban Economy and Planning Ministry, the Cuban Central Bank and UNDP aims at promoting good global practices in channeling external funds for development by regional and sub-regional banks. (ACN)
