Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez arrived in Cuba on Monday for an official visit, the Foreign Ministry informed.
During his stay in Cuba, Alvarez will hold official talks with Interim Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Ricardo Cabrisas, and other Cuban officials.
Last Friday, the Cuban Foreign Ministry announced Alvarez’s visit to Havana on Monday and Tuesday, as part of the strategy to strengthen relations with the Caribbean.
The head of Dominican diplomacy is accompanied by Deputy Ministers José Julio Gómez, in charge of Bilateral Foreign Policy; Hugo Francisco Rivera, responsible for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation; and Opinio Díaz Vargas, who is devoted to Consular and Migratory Affairs.
The delegation also includes Dominican Ambassador to Cuba Flavio Rondón; the director general for Migration, Venancio Alcántara Váldez, and the MIREX directors of Cabinet, Juan José Portorreal; of Studies and Strategic Analysis, Anselmo Muñiz; of Consular Affairs, Cándido Omar Mercedes; and of Migratory Affairs, Jadhel Herrera.
This is Alvarez’s first visit to Cuba.
Cuba and the Dominican Republic reestablished bilateral relations on April 16, 1998, following a visit by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to the Dominican Republic.
The two nations, united in history by permanent friendship and solidarity, share everything from music to the way of life, including customs and traditions. (PL)
