Through April 29 Costa Rica registers 713 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 340 women and 373 men; 642 are Costa Rican while 71 foreigners.
The health authorities have discarded 8,980 people, while 323 have already recovered with Six having passed away.
However, the number of Covid-19 positive patients of Costa Rican nationality that have died in the United States is of 16.
The number was confirmed by ambassador Fernando Llorca Castro, who also informed there are at least 60 Costa Ricans in the United States who are positive for the virus. Most of the cases have registered in New York and New Jersey but also Pennsylvania and Utah.
Costa Ricans that are working in the USA and have insurance have received medical services thanks to their health coverage, but there are many in irregular conditions that have problems accessing health services and therefore have received treatment in public services or charity institutions.
“What many have requested is to come back to Costa Rica. We’ve already had four flights that have allowed us to repatriate 396 people to Costa Rica from the United States, three flights from Houston and one from Miami. We still have some Costa Ricans awaiting an opportunity”, said Llorca.
In the meantime, current border restrictions prohibiting foreigners from entering Costa Rica have been extended through May 15.
Current vehicle restrictions will also remain in place through May 15.
Slowly, the government implements strict guidelines for companies to resume operations but many businesses and services remain closed including national parks and beaches.
