The World Health Organization (WHO) is extremely concerned about the Covid-19 pandemic in phase 4 of community transmission.

“We are concerned about the disease situation in places like Nicaragua,” WHO Executive Programme Executive Director Michael Ryan told EFE.

Daniel Ortega’s government recognizes 1,118 positive cases of coronavirus and 46 deaths. For its part, the independent organization Observatory Citizen raises the figure to 4,217 contagions and to 980 deaths.

Nicaragua looks increasingly pressing, with public and private hospitals collapsing.

According to health experts, Nicaragua has become a potential focus of contagion for the Covid-19 pandemic in Central America.

Public policy expert Eduardo Solórzano warns that other countries in the region could apply a market closure to Nicaragua if the spread of the virus is not managed.

Nicaragua is the only country in the region that has not implemented measures to stop the spread of coronavirus.

According to a recent report from the Aljazeera news agency, Schools and businesses remained open as Daniel Ortega encouraged residents to attend concerts, parades and sporting events. Doctors in the country say the situation is now out of control.

While the other Central American countries are beginning to reopen trade, in Nicaraguan territory the contagion curve continues to increase.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa), registers 1,118 positive cases of coronavirus and 46 deaths, independent doctors say the country reaches nearly 4,000 people infected and more than 900 deaths from the disease.

The Pan American Health Organization recognizes that Nicaragua is in the stage of community transmission, in the meantime the Government of Nicaragua continues to unofficially stage the pandemic.

Community transmission cases are cases of infected persons in which no epidemiological link can be established with any “imported or index” case or a “secondary” case.

From that moment on, the scientific community considers that the coVID-19 coronavirus virus “is already circulating in the population, in society, in some neighborhood, or in a country”.

According to the World Health Organization Classification Nicaragua would already be in phase 4 i.e. Community transmission. (Periódico Digital Centroamericano del Caribe)
